about

FE006

On 'Moth of the World', Secat takes the listener inside of this space of metamorphosis. No clean, teleological transformation, but a primordial genetic soup of sounds. Plateaus of coherence emerge like the imperceptible imaginal discs the caterpillar maintains as it disintegrates every part of its body, to eventually emerge as a wholly different entity.

As inside and outside spill into each other, samples and constructed sounds seamlessly blend together. Cells multiplying, still without purpose, finding their way into an as of yet unknown unity.

"I started crafting the pieces that would become moth of the world in August 2021. I had stumbled into a new permutation of my experiments in looping and live performance through creating some samples for Poison Damage for their album Angel is Calling. The material that eventually developed into the track “cutland” is part of what constitutes my feature on Angel’s closer, “See You Up There.” From there, the rest of the work came together in small bursts, piecemeal sessions that birthed new loop environments for me to play with and record every few months. In an interesting bookend, “cutland” was the last song I finished; I found its energy the hardest to capture. There were no particular musical inspirations I looked to for these pieces, but, abstractly, I understood them as a means of interpreting a few different sensations: dysphoria, interiority, metamorphosis.

Thank you very much for listening."
